About the artist

Mary Tilmouth

Mary was born and grew up in the Northern Territory Central Desert Region. Mary lived with her family at Alcoota Station where she was introduced to painting at the age of thirteen by her Aunty. Mary moved again in 1980 to Engawala Community where she still lives with her family. Mary’s sister and father are also artists, Mary likes to paint bush tucker and bush medicine that are found in the Central Desert area. Mary also makes native jewellery often using seeds from the bean tree. She is one of the artists that is attending Visual Arts at Batchelor in Alice Springs and is involved in painting the metal megafauna figures for the Alcoota museum in Alice Springs.

Mary was recognised for her contribution to the painting “Walking in Two Worlds” purchased by the Attorney Generals Department in Canberra after being exhibited at the Vincent Lingiari Art Awards, 2016
